MacKenna Hanson

MacKenna Hanson is a painter and draftsman working in Saint Cloud, Minnesota. She was born in Florida, spent most of her life in North Carolina, and trained at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She works across oil, gouache, distemper, watercolor, wax pastel, ink, charcoal, crayon, and pencil, often in combination, and refuses the labels that usually sort those apart. Her aim is to be proficient in as many mediums as possible so that the material can serve the idea rather than the other way around. Her subjects come from film, found imagery, and art-historical master copies, held together by an interest in how pictures shape and erase identity.
