Anika Whittier
Anika Whittier paints en plein air from a house in Fort Chiswell, Virginia that faces the Southwest Virginia valley. Her subjects are close at hand: the garden she keeps, the flowers she grows and arranges with her children, and the historic architecture of the region, including Graham Mansion, the Rural Retreat Depot, Fort Chiswell Mansion, and the Shot Tower at Foster Falls. The work is an argument for the texture and trueness of a specific place, looked at repeatedly. She showed with the gallery in Rooted in Place.
