Poole, a graduate of Radford University (BFA, 1998), has spent decades cultivating a practice rooted in observation, discipline, and care.As an elementary school art teacher in Wythe County Public Schools, she plays a vital role in shaping the next generation of artists, offering students not only technical guidance but a model for creative life grounded in consistency and curiosity.

In Study and Reverence presents a body of work that moves fluidly between studies of the natural world and reinterpretations of historical painting. Poole’s compositions reflect a quiet attentiveness: animals, landscapes, and figures emerge through a lens that balances realism with a subtle, almost surreal sensibility.

"Rejuvenescence"
Oil on Canvas

Her use of vibrant color and layered mark-making draws from studying the artists that define art history.  Van Gogh, Matisse, Michelangelo, Mary Cassatt, Picasso, and her students. There is a sense of devotion in these works. They are not simply representations, but acts of research into the originals and reinterpreting them. In revisiting classical imagery and pairing it with Poole's 2026 lens - creating a dialogue between past and present. Inviting viewers to consider what it means to hold it in reverence.

This exhibition is also a reflection of Formato Fine Arts’ ongoing mission: to platform hyper-local artists alongside national voices, recognizing that cultural depth begins within community. Andrea Poole’s work is shaped by research, teaching, and landscapes of the region.
